During Phase 2 of the 134th Canton Fair, which spanned from Oct 23 to 27 and continued the momentum that Phase 1 had gained between Oct 15 and 19, exhibitors sought to make breakthroughs through innovation by presenting fashionable and novel products while overseas buyers were an active force attending the fair on-site. The fair was bustling with negotiations and transactions, which could be counted as thriving in terms of both attendance and deals, according to an official from the Canton Fair Press Center.


The rising number and optimized structure of overseas buyers


During the first two phases of the ongoing 134th Canton Fair, some 157,200 buyers from 215 overseas countries and regions visited the fair, an increase of 53.6 percent from the same period of the 133rd fair and 4.1 percent from the 126th edition before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.


Of the overseas buyers, 64 percent, or over 100,000 people, are from Belt and Road countries and regions, up by 69.9 percent over the same period of the 133rd fair. The number of buyers from Europe and the United States reported a rebound, a jump of 54.9 percent from the same period of the 133rd fair.


The general consensus among exhibitors was that both on-site transactions and appointments for factory inspection tours were better than expected, so they restored confidence and remained optimistic about market prospects.


Greater home exhibition theme to facilitate one-stop sourcing


The 134th Canton Fair has optimized its layout of exhibition sections, evidenced by the rescheduling of Building and Decorative Materials, as well as Sanitary and Bathroom Equipment, from Phase 1 to Phase 2. The move aimed to create a greater home exhibition theme to better cater to the international market demand for consumption upgrades and high-quality life. The exhibition sections of Housewares, Gifts & Decorations covered 170,000 and 200,000 square meters respectively, while the section of Building & Furniture had an area of 140,000 sqm. They showcased and promoted products from the whole industry chain of home consumption, providing convenient one-stop sourcing, encouraging industry exchange and cooperation, and spurring innovative development of the sector.


Green and low-carbon products favored by foreign buyers


Some 60 percent of exhibits, or 690,000 products, during Phase 2 were new products or those with such features as eco-friendliness, proprietary intellectual property, or intelligent solutions. Green and low-carbon features were ubiquitous across a wide range of sections including Kitchenware and Tableware, Daily Ceramics, Building and Decorative Materials, Sanitary and Bathroom Equipment, Furniture, and Housewares. Bearing the hallmarks of environmentally friendly new materials, recycled use, and energy-efficient and emission-reduced production process, the signature eco-friendly exhibits won the hearts of overseas buyers, in particular, European and American buyers.   


Events as diverse as innovation releases and trade matchmaking


During Phase 2, 112 promotion events were held for new product launches and debuts, six industrial forums were scheduled, and eight “Trade Bridge” global matchmaking events were lined up. Meanwhile, the award ceremony of the Canton Fair Design Award and the Green Space event took place to empower innovative and green development.

Phase 3 of the fair will run from Oct 31 to Nov 4, displaying products across the five categories of Toys, Children, Baby and Maternity products, Fashion, Home Textiles, Stationery, and Health and recreation in 21 exhibition sections. More than 11,310 exhibitors will participate, including 238 from 25 countries and regions that will make a presence at the International Pavilion. The global business community is welcome to Canton which is full of opportunities for visiting and sourcing.
